This project involves further exploration into the creation of bespoke products using wooden materials. I really wanted to bridge the gap between my artwork and its functionality, to do this it seemed that the best space to experiment within would be the home kitchen. Modern Kitchens today not only function as a cooking area, but also as a social area in some cases becoming the heart of a home. We spend a lot of our lives in such spaces, so in an space of such social gathering why have plain utilitarian cookware? Why not have something interesting, something which contributes to a space such as this in a visual way? This concept means that within a cooking area you can have a piece of contemporary or rustic art stood among a space, which also has a useful function.
Chopping Surface - The opposite side of the board features a durable long lasting shopping surface, adorned with Jack Nassau Design Branding.
The selected material was a 25mm thick slab of pure Waney Oak, with an intense wood grain, rustic saw marks and still including the original tree bark.
