Cal's Own Restaurant - Bar Design
Commercial Bar Design and production
An installation project completed for Cal's Own Restaurant, Jesmond. The project involved the design and production of a bespoke bar area and frontage, incorporating eye catching 3-Dimensional artwork with an aim to create a subtle but striking focal point within the space.

A continuous geometric design was CNC engraved onto four separate wooden panels. By cutting shapes and geometry at different levels the illusion of depth and deep texture has been created allowing the artwork to catch and cast shadows depending on the time of day or lighting. Perspective also plays a part in the piece as when viewed from different angles, darker tones and more elongated shapes form new geometry and pattern.

The installation not only provides an interesting focal point for customers, but also fulfills its role as a modern yet striking welcoming area and social bar space.
'For the front bar panels we opted for CNC routed MDF boards that were then primed and lacquered. Jack had shown me several examples of how it would look using different materials and processes before I settled on this. Being given hard examples really helped me to envision the final look.
Jack is meticulous. He pays the utmost attention to all aspects of the job, from the design of the artwork to the materials used, and then finally the application. Jack is also not afraid to speak his mind when he’s concerned decisions might not work, offering his expertise and aesthetic judgement throughout.
Jack is an extremely commercially minded individual and has the ability to use his finely tuned skills to achieve a great deal in the creative market. His specialist knowledge of materials, processes and of course his artistic capabilities will I’m sure, all be conducive to a very successful career.’
